Scoring Against Crohn's
For the second year in a row, pro quarterback David Garrard aims to score big for Crohn's disease patients to raise awareness and provide funding for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).An Athlete's Story
David Garrard is in his eighth season as a professional quarterback and his third straight season as his team's starter. In 2007, David was third in the league in quarterback ratings (102.2) and had fewer interceptions than any other quarterback in the league. He was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2004, after experiencing the symptoms associated with Crohn's disease, losing a significant amount of weight and missing several weeks of pre-season training.
Since taking control of his disease, David has taken an active role in raising awareness of the disease, educating the public, and increasing funding to find a cure. He has travelled across the country, visiting Camp Oasis regional camps for children with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He has also started a local chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.
David married his college sweetheart, Mary, after they graduated from East Carolina University. The couple has a two-year-old son, Justin.
